During the Han Dynasty and opening of the Silk Road, the art of silk embroidery became popular in China due to its well established production and trade. The four embroidery styles in China are Shu 蜀, Xiang 湘, Su 蘇, and Yue 粵 embroidery.

The most recognizable embroidery is Su embroidery. Suzhou is known as the “City of Embroidery.” It is not only the distribution center in China, but also an important place of history dating back 2,000 years of Chinese art and crafts. Another styles comes from the Miao people. Their embroideries reflect Miao history, religions, values, and social changes over the centuries. Remembering ancestors with embroidery is an indispensable theme throughout generation of Miao women.
