The Prompt: In a world that faces many challenges, from environmental crises to social divides. Art can be a device of healing and transformation. This competition invites artists to explore the aspects of reparative and regenerative qualities in art. What is reparative, how can we mend what has been broken, and how can we foster growth and repair within ourselves, communities, and environments?
Artist Statement: The artist statement communicates how it relates to the theme. No more than 100 words. Type the statement in the Registration Form.
Media Requirement: The artwork can be any medium and maximum size is 24 by 36 inches.
Dates of the Registration and Submitting Artwork:
One entry per student.
Email your registration and artwork (jpg file less than 20 MB) to ArtCompetition@chineseamericanmuseum.org no later than 5 pm on May 31, 2025.
Entries submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
Judging Criteria: A final Judging Committee will review the submissions based on the following criteria:
Interpretation of the theme
Technical skill
Originality (all artwork must be original ideas and created entirely by the students; no artwork depicting characters from TV shows, movies, video games or books will be accepted)
Judging and Winners:
Finalists will be selected from both lower grade and upper grade groups.
Finalists’ artwork will be displayed at the Chinese American Museum DC.
Best-in-Show winners will be selected from each finalist group.
Best-in-Show lower grade winners will receive a scholarship award of $50, $200, $500, and $800.
Best-in-Show upper grade winners will receive a scholarship award of $100, $400, $700, and $1,000.
Notification of Finalists and Displaying Requirements:
Finalists will be notified in August/September 2025.
Displaying painting needs to be matted and framed.
