Wong, host of Color of Success, and Connie Steele, host of Strategic Momentum. This event will be moderated by National Emmy Award winning television journalist, Joie Chen.

Meet the Panelists

Dr. Xine Yao, Ph.D. is the co-host of podcast, PhDivas, discussing academia, culture, and social justice across the STEM/humanities divide. PhDivas was founded in 2015, while Xine and co-host, Dr. Liz Wayne were working on their PhDs at Cornell University, as a way to bridge conversations about social justice and support for women in academia from their different personal experiences and disciplinary perspectives. Xine is the author of Disaffected: The Cultural Politics of Unfeeling in Nineteenth-Century America. Disaffected explores the racial and sexual politics of unfeeling (affects that are not recognized as feeling) as a means of survival and refusal in nineteenth-century America. Dr. Yao holds a B.A. from Trinity College at the University of Toronto, M.A. from Dalhousie University, M.A. from Cornell University, Ph.D. from Cornell University and is a Lecturer in American Literature to 1900 in the English department at University College London.

Sheena Yap Chan is a keynote speaker, podcaster, consultant, and author on building self-confidence. She currently inspires women through her award-winning podcast, The Tao of Self Confidence where she interviews Asian women about their inner journey to self-confidence. Her mission is to help Asian women boost their confidence to live their authentic selves, help Asian women create a voice in the world, and create a stronger representation for Asian women. Sheena has been featured on Huffpost, Global News, NBC News, Manila Times and more. She is also the TOP 100 Filipinos to follow on LinkedIn for inspiration and learning in 2021. Sheena is the co-author of the international bestselling book, Asian Women Who Boss Up.

Dr. Stephanie J. Wong, Ph.D. is an Asian American, licensed clinical psychologist entrepreneur, and founder and host of the award-winning, Color of Success Podcast. She works in private practice with Tech professionals, most of which are ethnic minorities, and at a hospital, serving military veterans. Her training in clinical interviewing has led to fireside chats with diverse podcast guests about advancing their careers and addressing mental health and cultural identity. Dr. Wong is a keynote speaker in academic, entertainment, and corporate settings, sharing her expertise in Asian American mental health, diversity training, and the treatment of anxiety, depression, substance use, work related stress, and relationship and cultural concerns.

Connie Steele is a future of work & life expert, executive consultant, author and speaker that guides companies and professionals in finding purpose, gaining momentum and thriving in today’s constantly changing and hybrid world. By assessing and analyzing workplace challenges from a human-centric perspective, Connie has become an expert on understanding what today’s workers want and need professionally and personally. Through her award-nominated podcast Strategic Momentum, she interviews forward-thinking leaders and creators on how they broke through their inertia personally and professionally while sharing tips, stories, and advice on ‘how’ they redefined success to help them progress the way they wanted. Connie is the author of best-selling book, Building the Business of You: A System to Align Passion and Growth Potential Through Your Own Career Mashup.

Joie Chen is a National Emmy Award winning television journalist and journalism educator based in Washington DC. A Chicago native, Chen has enjoyed a long and successful career in journalism. She is best known for her decade as an anchor and correspondent at CNN and CNN International, where she covered history-making events including September 11, the Columbine massacre, many political campaigns, international conflicts and disasters. Later, she was a CBS correspondent at the White House and on Capitol Hill. She was the host of Al Jazeera America’s flagship news program, America Tonight. She currently is senior contributor to the nationally syndicated program “Matter of Fact.”

Chen is active in journalism and diversity education, and has served on the boards of her alma mater, the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University as well as the Elon University School of Communications, the Freedom Forum and most recently in the senior leadership of the Poynter Institute.
